Marca reveals the matches Mbappé will miss after his red card against Alaves

Kylian Mbappé was sent off in his team’s match against Alavés after a violent tackle on Antonio Blanco. The French star’s right boot struck the former Real Madrid player’s leg as he fought over the ball.
Soto Grado initially deemed the play worthy of a yellow card, but was quickly warned by Gil Manzano via VAR to overturn the decision and send off the Frenchman, who then walked off the pitch, accepting his actions and saying nothing.
Mbappé was frustrated by his failure to flag what appeared to be a clear foul after being pushed in midfield, and his reaction was to chase the ball with more force than necessary, in what was a completely harmless play in midfield. The play, pending the referee’s report, may be considered violent play, meaning a one-to-three-match ban could apply, meaning he could be in or out of the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.
Therefore, Mbappé is expected to miss the following matches if he is suspended for 3 matches:
- Athletic Bilbao in La Liga on April 20
- Getafe in La Liga on April 23
- Barcelona in the Cup final on April 26
This is what the report says about the red card Mbappé received: “In the 38th minute, player (9) Mbappé Lottin, Kylian, was sent off for the following reason: for stepping on the opponent’s leg with his foot, while fighting over the ball, using excessive force.”
The absence of injury and the fact that the ball was disputed will be mitigating factors when it comes to drawing up the report and, above all, the possible sanction, but Mbappé’s behaviour, in any case, is one of those that draws attention because of its violence towards a player who has nothing to do with that aspect of the game.
Mbappe apologizes to Blanco
The striker approached the former Real Madrid player after the match to apologize and inquire about his condition. He did the same to his teammates, leaving the Whites in a state of deprivation. The club stated that Mbappé had no intention of harming Blanco, but that this action came after he received two fouls that were not given.
Real Madrid admit that VAR’s performance was accurate, which is what it is designed for in football, but it is certainly strange that the same did not happen in the Espanyol match.
