Barcelona player terminates his contract and joins Atletico Madrid

Spanish newspaper Marca confirmed that Barcelona and its highly-paid player are planning to terminate their contract by mutual consent a full year before it expires, with the player set to move to Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona is working to find radical solutions for players who have fallen out of favor with Hansi Flick and are not expected to play for the German coach next season.

Barcelona wants to get rid of all unimportant players, firstly to generate financial income that will enable it to conclude new deals, and secondly to free up its payroll so it can sign new players for next season.

On the other hand, Atletico Madrid is also working in the market to strengthen its squad and will play in the Club World Cup in the United States, an opportunity to improve the poor image Simeone’s team showed last season.

According to Marca, Clement Lenglet and Barcelona are negotiating to terminate his contract, which expires in June 2026. These are not easy talks, as the defender has a very high salary, earning €16 million gross.

Atletico Madrid, the team with which he performed exceptionally well last season, is interested in purchasing the player. In fact, they want to count on him for the upcoming Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States in a few days.

For Barcelona, getting rid of the €16 million Lenglet is receiving will be extremely important in the upcoming transfer window, hence the interest in completing the deal as soon as possible.
