Deco confirms: Yes, Paris Saint-Germain has asked to sign the Barcelona player

In a lengthy interview on Catalunya Radio, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco discussed his expectations for the summer transfer window, player contract renewals, and the deals fans are eagerly awaiting.

Deco began his discussion about Flick’s contract renewal by saying: “Flick has brought stability to this project. He has found players who have matured and are good at football. One year is different, but with two more years comes stability. Flick is happy here, he identifies with the club and the people, and I don’t see him having any more ambition to move to another club.”

On winning the treble: “We knew the team had plenty of room to grow. Last year, we reached the Champions League quarter-finals and were close to qualifying. But we had to compete better. I had no doubt that by performing better, we would be able to compete, and I was absolutely clear that we had to reach the end of the season and compete for every title.”

He then addressed the rumours surrounding Lamine Yamal’s request for the highest salary on the team: “Lamine did not ask to be the highest-paid player on the team’s roster. We don’t talk to the players, we talk to the agents. He wants to be happy here.”

He added: “He’s on the right track. He’s a player with extraordinary maturity. I have a son his age. A player of this quality and self-confidence… but we can never forget that he’s 17. He has to live his life a little, no matter how difficult it is, and be happy. A player of this level has to be happy.”

He continued: “For me, it’s not about his age, 17, 26, or whatever. For me, football should be fair, and he should have a contract that suits him. It’s not about being the highest-paid player; the important thing is that he’s happy. For me, there’s no better club for him than Barcelona. His contracts will be for four, five, six years, or something like that.”

He announced that Paris Saint-Germain had already asked to sign Lamine, saying: “Yes, last season, yes, and this season no, but what we want is for him to stay. We haven’t discussed offers because he doesn’t want to listen, but Paris Saint-Germain has already asked to sign him, and Real Madrid hasn’t.”
