Barcelona’s next signing raises fans’ eyebrows and anger

It’s time to make decisions as Barcelona have been considering their market options for next season for some time, and now it’s time to fully define them.

Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco met yesterday, and will meet again today, to discuss what the team needs to improve on. The priority remains signing a winger, because, as Deco said in a recent interview, there is an excessive “dependence” on Lamine Yamal and Raphinha alone for goals.

For this reason, the team is keen to strengthen its ranks with a top-class winger who can compete for a starting spot, has good skill and the ability to score goals, and also works on pressing, and if he can also play as a playmaker, all the better.

Deco’s preferred player is Luis Diaz (28 years old), as the managing director announced last season when Neco Williams’ name was in vogue. Therefore, the sporting director’s interest in the Colombian striker is nothing new.

Diaz is strong, enthusiastic, and competitive, and has two years remaining on his contract with Liverpool. Barcelona has already spoken with his entourage to determine his willingness to wear the Blaugrana shirt. He is welcome, but it all depends on Barcelona’s ability to pay the exorbitant fee.

According to reports, the Diaz deal will cost Barcelona approximately €80 million, a huge sum compared to other available options at the same or lower price.

For example, Neco Williams is a young, modern winger who plays in the same style as Barcelona and has a release clause of €58 million. There’s also Rafael Leao, who could be signed for €60 million.

For these reasons, Barcelona fans were shocked and angry when Luis Diaz’s name and the amount of money expected to be paid to sign him surfaced, despite the availability of higher-quality, lower-priced alternatives.
