Flick prevents Barcelona’s “beating heart” from leaving

German coach Hansi Flick was forced to personally intervene to prevent one of his star players from leaving in the summer transfer window and urge him to renew his contract with Barcelona.

Hansi Flick wants to strengthen his team with new signings to compensate for the shortage in some positions, but at the same time he wants to maintain the core of the starting lineup he has relied on throughout the season.

According to El Nacional, Barcelona is making great efforts to ensure the continued presence of one of its most important players, Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch midfielder has already begun talks with the club to renew his contract, which currently expires in June 2026, and Barcelona’s offices consider him an absolute priority for the future.

In this context, a last-minute offer from abroad has raised some concerns within Barcelona. Although the club that launched the offer has not publicly disclosed it, it would be an extremely attractive offer financially, which has forced Barcelona to accelerate contacts with the player.

Faced with this situation, Hansi Flick intervened directly. The German coach, who had just won the Spanish League and the Copa del Rey in his first season with the team, spoke personally with De Jong to convey his absolute confidence and ask him to continue with the project.

For Flick, Frenkie is a key player. He believes the team’s balance rests on the Dutchman’s talent and tactical intelligence, who has taken a step forward both footballingly and emotionally this season. He has taken on the responsibility, established himself as a leader, and has become the team’s balance in several key matches.
