UEFA Arbitration Committee comments on Marciniak’s controversial decisions in Barcelona vs. Inter match

UEFA’s Refereeing Committee has confirmed its confidence in referee Szymon Marciniak, who officiated the second leg of the Champions League semi-final between Barcelona and Inter Milan .
Inter Milan secured a place in the Champions League final after a thrilling 4-3 extra-time victory over Barcelona, winning 7-6 on aggregate (the first leg ended in a 3-3 draw).
The Polish referee’s performance was widely criticized, particularly by Barcelona officials, who blamed him for their exit from the European Championship and for turning their dream into a nightmare.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta, coach Hansi Flick, and players Pedri, Araujo, and Gavi blamed the Polish referee and his decisions for the elimination. They also spoke of a clear desire not to see Barcelona in the final.
“They were scared,” Gavi said, without identifying the recipient or referring to the referees’ decisions.
But Eric Garcia clarified, saying, “Things didn’t go as planned, not because of our mistakes. We all know what happened to us before with this referee.”
Marca asked UEFA’s refereeing committee about what happened and whether there was any problem with Marciniak after the match. The European body indicated that it had no issues with the referee and was completely satisfied with his performance.
