Barca star is in talks with Luis Enrique’s PSG

Barcelona exited the Champions League semi-finals with their heads held high after a marathon match against Inter Milan, which they lost due to minor details and unfair refereeing decisions.

However, this doesn’t prevent the incident from being described as a major setback for Barcelona, which has been making steady progress this season. It has already won two titles from its traditional rival, Real Madrid: the Spanish Super Cup and the Spanish King’s Cup. It currently leads La Liga by four points.

Following this setback, El Nacional reported that a Barcelona player had opened talks with Luis Enrique about joining Paris Saint-Germain.

Gavi’s future at Barcelona began to be shrouded in doubt. What appeared to be a strengthening phase following his recovery from a devastating knee injury led to a context in which he remained in a secondary role in Hansi Flick’s plan. The young Andalusian, a symbol of courage, intensity, and dedication, was unable to regain the influence he had before his enforced absence.

Despite the club’s insistence that the German coach is confident in his progress, events on the pitch paint a different picture. Frenkie de Jong and Pedri have dominated the midfield, while names like Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez have gained ground in the more advanced areas. Gavi currently spends more time on the bench than on the pitch, playing a role that doesn’t match his ambitions or talent.

At 20, and having won awards such as the Golden Boy and the Copa del Rey, the Spanish international feels he needs exposure, minutes, and consistency to regain the form that made him one of Europe’s most promising midfielders. His lack of pace has been evident in recent matches. This has gone largely unnoticed in Milan, and he is dissatisfied with being a reserve player in a team undergoing a rebuild.

Amidst this situation, a figure capable of changing everything has emerged: Luis Enrique. The current coach of Paris Saint-Germain, and the man he trusted more than anything when he was still a teenager, has reconnected with those around him. The Asturian coach sent him a direct message: at Paris Saint-Germain, Gavi will be a key player, the heart of the project, and a reference point in a dressing room that, even after reaching the Champions League final, is already thinking about new challenges next year.

Luis Enrique believes Gavi possesses the ideal qualities to lead a dynamic midfield: technique, positive aggression, a keen eye for the game, and, most importantly, an indestructible attitude. Paris Saint-Germain will offer him not only a permanent position, but also the opportunity to grow without the constraints of Barcelona’s current competition.

Currently, the player remains committed to Barcelona. He has a contract until 2030 and has not publicly opened the door to an exit. But in private, he is beginning to consider alternative scenarios if his role does not change clearly and quickly. Gavi realizes that his career cannot continue for another year without continuity.
