Barcelona rejects Raphinha’s request and opens the door for him

Rafinha’s future at Barcelona appears more open than it did just a few weeks ago. Although the club appreciates his performances this season very positively and is keen to extend his contract beyond June 30, 2027, the Brazilian winger’s financial demands could open the door to an earlier departure.

According to Catalunya Radio’s “Tut Costa” program, talks have already begun between Rafinha and Deco’s agents to negotiate a possible renewal. Barcelona recognizes that their performances this season—with decisive performances in the league and the Champions League, even equaling historic records such as those set by Messi in Europe’s top competition—justify a contract improvement. However, the positions between the two parties remain far apart.

The player’s representatives made very high financial demands on Deco, more in line with figures in the English Premier League or Saudi football than with Barcelona’s economic reality. The sporting director’s response, according to Tut Costa, was clear: if they found a club willing to pay that salary and make a substantial transfer offer, ranging between €80 and €90 million, Barcelona would be willing to seriously consider the deal.

Although the club initially wanted to renew Rafinha’s contract under criteria similar to those of Ronald Araujo, with a reasonable release clause and a salary adjusted in accordance with Financial Fair Play, the scenario has changed. The club’s economic situation requires strategic decisions, and Rafinha is not considered a loner, unlike younger players like Lamine Yamal.

Possibility of leaving after the World Cup

The key date on the horizon is the summer of 2026, before the World Cup that year. The player’s entourage has made it clear that until then, he will not seriously consider accepting any offer unless it is absolutely unquestionable. In other words, the Brazilian wants to play consistently and brilliantly in Europe at the next World Cup, which currently rules out a move to Saudi Arabia, the only market capable of achieving Barcelona’s asking price.

But the door hasn’t been completely closed. The club appears willing to keep Rafinha if he meets the project’s conditions, but it also recognizes that it needs to make some significant sales to free up wages and strengthen other areas of the pitch, such as the pivot or left-back.

The truth is that Rafinha is currently experiencing one of his best moments as a Barcelona player, but his continued presence is far from guaranteed. Flick is counting on him, appreciating his commitment and tactical development, but Deco has made it clear that if a significant offer arrives, his departure will be considered.

A hot summer is approaching at the Camp Nou offices, where the futures of several key players, including Rafinha, will be on the table. The club wants to continue building a competitive team, but not at any cost. Despite his happiness at Barcelona, the Brazilian is aware that his future could change at the end of next season or even sooner if an irresistible offer arrives.
