Real Madrid prepares its first clean-up: these are the players at risk

Despite continuing to fight for the three remaining competitions, Real Madrid’s season has been marked by inconsistency, falling far short of the expectations set with the arrival of a star like Kylian MbappĂ©.

The 3-0 defeat suffered in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal, and above all the image presented, means that future positions are already under consideration, regardless of what happens at the Santiago Bernabéu in the second leg against the English team.

According to AS, the recent defeats, both against Arsenal and Valencia (1-2), are prompting them to reconsider the contracts of some players who seemed capable of continuing just a few weeks ago, but are now in danger.

The underlined name above all of these is Luka Modric, who recently announced at the age of 39 that he still doesn’t want to give up football and wants to retire at Real Madrid.

The Croatian’s contract expires next June, and according to Madrid newspaper, he’s been out of the team more than he’s been there now.

Another player whose contract is coming to an end is Lucas Vazquez, 33, who also doesn’t seem likely to extend his contract unless things change significantly between now and the end of the season.

As for players whose contracts expire in 2026, the most prominent candidate for not renewing is David Alaba (32 years old), while the best chance of continuing is Antonio Rudiger (also 32 years old).
